Smplayer doesn't start video playback automatically

I have asked this question to a greek forum, to Debian forum as well and I have no answer. I hope someone here will have something to help me.

I have SMplayer 0.6.9 and mplayer 1 rc4 installed on a Debian Testing machine. I have the video files associated with smplayer but when I double click a video file, it just opens the smplayer without starting the playback. It remains idle forever.

If i go Open-->File it works great. The problem is that it does NOT start the playback automatically.

Any ideas?
