Files do not associate themselves on new install

Hello,
After the installation of fresh version of SMPlayer I have to manually associate all the video file types to SMPlayer (via Windows Explorer's folder options). Checking file types in SMPlayer's settings do not work. That happened twice already, and actually bothers. Why wouldn't those built-in settings work? I have Windows XP - but that's not the case right. Then what? It happened twice and probably will happen again.. Was ok on older (before 8.5) versions of player, I think. But now on installations video files become in-associated and I have to manually associate them cause player's settings seem to be ignored by Windows
