MPlayer and Windows Media Video 9 (WMV3)

Recently I've discovered that MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r36349-4.6.3 does not seem to be able to play video files with video stream detected as
Format: VC-1
Codec ID: WMV3
Codec ID/Info: Windows Media Video 9

Firstly MPlayer mentioned it required a 'wmv9dmo' codec.
OK, I've downloaded the whole codec pack and copied the codec to mplayer\codecs folder.
Now MPlayer says in its log file:

That's it - the video is stopped after several seconds of playing. I'm able to move the slider somewhere to the middle of the movie - and again, MPlayer plays just for several seconds and exits.
The same video files are played without problems in MPC-HC or GOMPlayer...
Is it a known issue with MPlayer?

I don't see anything strange in the logs.
Could you try if it works better with the lavf demuxer?

You can enable it by adding -demuxer lavf in preferences -> advanced -> options for mplayer -> options.
