I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly.
I use mpv as player
I copy the url of the youtube playlist
I choose open url
but only the first video plays

the same with dailymotion
ie. if i rightclick and choose view playlist, there are no other videos in the playlistt.

SMPlayer doesn't handle that type of playlists.

I have since discovered by asking at reddit, that it will play files in a youtube playlist, but the playlist will only show the first file name.
