Could you add .cue files to the list of file formats? Fairly often, I come across music encoded to a single flac file, with an accompanied cue file as playlist.
Found somewhere that the syntax for mounting cue files (in Ubuntu) should be

$ mplayer cue://<cue file>[:track] [options]

don't know if it helps...
