Select default subtitles track

When playing a video that contains subtitles (not an external file), to turn on the subtitles, I need to: RMB> subtitles> primary track> eng.

Only after selecting a track, the 'j' hotkey works to cycle between them.

Can you make 'j' works before that or alternatively select a primary track by default?

Are you using mpv or mplayer?

If you're using mpv then you can add (without quotes) "--slang=eng" to the options which smplayer passes to mpv, found here:
Options --> Preferences --> Advanced --> Mplayer/mpv

You will of course need to have Subtitle Visibility turned on. It's seen in the subtitle tab in the main window or through the RMB menu (the setting is persistent).
