play remote files on NAS drive over samba

I have the same problem smplayer will not acept remote files but a twist I have the caegoires=qt;KDE in my smplayer.desktop files strange thing is I just installed smplayer the other day and it worked fine but when I reformatted this time I have no icons and it doesn't play off the NAS solution f smplayer now I question the validity of the package it self possible curuption it seems like to me so I go look for alternative and post back maybe try vlc instead
