SMplayer does not read some tags

Hi there, I'm new in this forum, I regularly use SMplayer because it's the best and most beautiful program under linux to watch movies!

However, I noticed I can't see the subtitles with some tags properly. For instance, the tag {\an8} before a subtitle should put it in the upper part of the screen, but instead the subtitle appear like this:

{\an8}subtitle

I don't know why it happens, but it's something that does not happen in VLC, for instance.

I use Linux Mint 14 Nadia, if it helps, with Cinnamon as DE.

The subtitles are displayed by mplayer, so it's a problem of it.
