Smplayer will not play directory

I have classical music stored on a NAS and have selections with 3 or 4 movements saved in directories. I used to be able to play all the movements by using "open directory" and clicking on the directory but this seems to have stopped working. I can still play the individual items but not the composition as a whole.

I just noticed that another computer in my house is able to open the directories correctly (and it also shows "other locations" on the dropdown list of directories which is essential to being able to open files on the NAS. Oddly enough, that machine is running an older release of smplayer (18.2.2). So now there are two questions:

why no access to "other locations" and why directories can't be opened?

would it be possible to install an older version of smplayer (and where would I find it)?

I successfully reinstalled smplayer 18.2.2 and it will open local directories and play the music files within but my NAS still does not appear under other locations. I have a WD My Cloud which is automatically detected by the Nautilus browser and is also found on my other computer but not on this one.

Can you tell me how to make Smplayer 18.2.2 detect my NAS, please?

The opening of the directory is working fine now but not the network detection.

So the problem is that the NAS is not shown in the file dialog?
SMPlayer just calls the QFileDialog from the Qt library, so there's little I can do about it. Try changing the option "use the system native file dialog" in preferences -> interface and see if that makes any difference.

I don't see that option in preferences > interface...

just to make sure we are in sync:

when I hit open > directory > other locations I see "on this computer" at the top but not "network" below it.
