Playing audio cd buffers and skips on SMPlayer

I have a new LG external drive which I'm using with a Lenovo ThinkPad T400. When I play an audio cd the player frequently skips and the "buffering" indicator appears in the information block. Is there anything I can do to change the settings in SMPlayer so that the audio disc won't skip? This skipping hasn't occurred when playing a dvd.

According to the log you're opening the disc as a DVD. If it's an audio CD you have to open it with the option Open -> Disc -> Audio CD.

No, I have checked the audio cd designation. I have also played dvd's on the drive which may be why they show up here. I've tried a number of audio cd's and they all seem to have this same buffering problem.

One other thing that I've noticed...when I begin playing the cd there is a loud "buzzing" sound that emits from the drive. After it starts that sound ceases, but then the buffering problem sets in. Thank you again.
