Can you send the smplayer log (menu View) after trying to play one of those videos?

Are you using the option to use short filenames in preferences -> advanced -> mpv/mplayer?

No but changing that setting did not help either

I can't see any error in the logs, everything seems normal. Doesn't the video play?

Can you send the log just after smplayer skipped that video and played a different one?
