Do those keys you're having trouble with work with other applications for you?

My case: my keyboard only have 3 media keys: mute and volume +/-. Those work fine. I have two remote controls with media keys. With one of them the media keys work fine while smplayer has the focus but some of the keys (play, pause, rewind, forward) don't work while smplayer is in the background. With the other remote control all keys work fine even when smplayer doesn't have the focus.

The problem with the first remote control is that the driver (I guess) doesn't report the keystrokes for those keys as normal key press events (they are reported as "appcommand" events). I can't find a way to grab those events to use as global shortcuts.

I installed VLC and it can't recognize those keys.

Which ones?

Do they work when the application is not in the foreground?

If they are open source I can take a look to see how they do it.

Yes, media player classic - Home Cinema 1.6.4.5830 (release_v1_6_3-12-gf0aca7c), He too, like open source. Pause works actively even when another window.

Thank you for this support! It's nice when open source software so developed!

I tested the method that media player classic uses but yet these keys don't work :(

Does play/pause work for you when smplayer is in the foreground? Because maybe the problem is different.

In smplayer not work, even when the window is active and is in the foreground. It may be the case due to the drivers on the keyboard? However, it works in other players)))

And please do check to use the media keys are set by default. It seems to me that it would be more convenient.

I tried on another computer, version 7792, first forgot to tick "use media keys." But eventually the player is active, all but the work pause. And when its window is not active, did not work, and switching songs. This laptop Acer Aspire 5560g, os windows 7 x64.

I try to look for more players with open source, which will operate these buttons.

If the key doesn't work when the smplayer window is in the foreground then the problem is different. It might be that the key "Media play" is not assigned to the "Play/Pause" function or maybe the key is not identified as "Media play". You can check it in preferences -> keyboard. Modify a shortcut, be sure the "capture" button is on, and press the play button in your keyboard and see if gets detected.

Specially I checked that the media keys are assigned functions in the settings accordingly.

I found the audio player in which media buttons work! Clementine!

https://github.com/clementine-player/Clementine

but I'll look for another
