Disabling Check for Updates

Is there a way to disable "Check for Updates" outside of the GUI? I'm including smplayer in an on-demand installer for my organization and end-users do not have admin rights on desktops...plus I don't want the chance of any prompts for them to update.
I checked the registry and didn't see anything at a glance.
