Does it work if you change the multimedia engine (preferences -> general) from mpv to mplayer?

I downloaded the latest version from your website and the problem still exists on it.

This problem baffles me, because I don't remember having it when I was running Linux Mint (but maybe I never tried to play a CD back then). Could it be because I'm on a different OS (Devuan)?

I guess you're passing the options --hwdec=no and --sub-auto=fuzzy to mpv in preferences -> advanced -> mplayer/mpv. If that's the case, remove them, those options use the mpv syntax and mplayer can't understand them.
