smplayer-19.1.0-win32.exe vs. Windows XP Home SP2 or 3

Hi, everyone.
I used to have a computer happily running smplayer (I don't know which version) under Windows XP Home SP2.
I then unintentionally formatted the hard disk
I reinstalled XP and SP2, then installed smplayer-19.1.0-win32.exe but when I run it I just get a dialogue box that says "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001e)". If I OK that it brings up the same box again (but not a 3rd time).
I then installed SP3 but that didn't make any difference.
Any suggestions?
