Automatically selecting subtitles after downloading them

In the past, when I downloaded a subtitles file from OpenSubtitles using SMPlayer, the subtitles file would be automatically selected in the player. For quite some time now, however, I have to manually choose the subtitle after download on the Subtitles menu.

Did I mess up my SMPlayer configuration? Was this an intentional change? Is it a bug / accidental regression that I am the first person to report?

There hasn't been any change about it. I can't reproduce the problem in my computer.

I’ve tried resetting the configuration (renaming the ~/.config/smplayer folder to smplayer~), but the issue still happens. I’ve recorded a video of that, in case it helps: https://youtu.be/r04JxZydf0Q

Can it be caused by an SMPlayer file somewhere else? Maybe even the locale I use (Galician)? Shall I rebuild old versions of SMPlayer to try and find a version when the issue starts reproducing for me? (assuming it’s not due to something in my system)

If you're using mplayer as "multimedia engine", change it to mpv (preferences -> general). I think the problem happens when using mplayer.

Does the version matter?

Indeed, switching to mpv solved it. Many thanks!
