Unable to capture video using Game Capture source in OBS

When I try to capture the currently playing video using a Game Capture source in OBS I get nothing.
However if I try to capture an instance of mpv it works perfectly.
I assumed it would work the same but it appears something in the way SMPlayer renders the window is preventing OBS from grabbing the image.
I've tried many different options in SMPlayer to try and get it to work but I can't.
I assumed enabling 'Direct rendering' would work, but alas, nothing.

I'd simply like to capture the currently playing video without any of the GUI, as it does perfectly with VLC. This requires using the Game Capture source.
Any ideas?

Game capture is only for fullscreen applications. Altough you may run the video in fullscreen, it's not like a game. If you're watching an online video you wanna capture and you don't wanna use VLC, you can capture it with SimpleScreenRecorder (SSR). Despite its "simple" name, it's far from that.
