I use the latest smplayer which 'runs mpv in its own windows'. The mpv.conf file's background="#ffffff" does not work and the input.conf's [add sharpen] says it's working but no difference is seen in sharpness. Also the input.conf [cycle video] hides the mpv-window while the audio plays. Is there a way or keybind to get the video-screen back? Thank you.

mpv will not load the mpv config when it's used by smplayer.

is there a way I can change the background color(like the color of black bars on the side)?

in the 'options for mplayer/mpv' tried --background="#ffffff", but no effect.

add --vo=gpu and sharpen=3 works. another problem solved.
these are optional settings i use so far
--config=yes --force-window --audio-display=attachment --fullscreen=yes --volume=100 --sub-pos=50 --sub-color=#ffbf00 --sub-border-size=3 --keepaspect=no --af-clr --vo=gpu

I guess --vo=gpu also allowed background="#ffffff" , so all 3 problems are solved. May also help make mpv.conf usable.
