I was wondering were the toggle switch is to show the volume controls?
I have been looking for a while but just cant find it

What volume controls are you talking about?
There should be one in the right-down corner of the player window.
If you reffer to the mplayer OSD, Options / OSD / pick-what-you-like-to-see.
