Video equalizer gamma won't adjust

For some reason when I try to adjust the gamma level in the Video Equalizer nothing happens. All the other settings have an effect but not gamma. Any suggestion on how to re-enable this? It used to work. Thanks

Try to enable the software equalizer in preferences->general->video.
