smplayer hangs

Often when i press „space“ as break, switch to another window (e.g. text-editor for subtitles), switch back to smplayer, press space to continue, the film hangs - nothing happens.

only pressing stop-play
or
left-right
makes it run again.

(smplayer on linux with gnome)
