Recent Files Erase + Seeking Issue

Hi guys, I love smplayer and it is my default program for all video types except rm. I am running it in Windows 7.
But I have an issue. I've set "recent files" to 0 in the preferences but when I right click on the icon in my taskbar (anytime smplayer is playing or even just open), I still get the list of recent files. There is no open --> recent files in the file menu anymore, and that's great, but I don't want them showing up anywhere!
Is there a way to remove the ability to remember recent files altogether, even on right click? Ideally, I'd still want it to remember where it was stopped once a file is loaded, but I don't want it showing a list of recent files anywhere. Any advice?
----
Second issue, whenever I click right arrow or left arrow or when I scroll the mouse, the video seeks fine, but since I installed this latest version, it has a display on the screen showing how far along I am in the file as it seeks. Like a volume display on a TV, a set of white bars going left to right, increasing as I seek or fast forward.....
Is there any way to disable that?? It's really annoying. I can't imagine anyone wants that there over their video..... how do I disable it?
Thanks guys, again, greatest video player available, but if it MUST show recent files, I'll make something else the default player and make sure I only open "General Admission" content in smplayer.
Thanks,
Rubble

Thanks for the OSD tip, I wouldn't have found that for a while.
I'm using 0.6.9. with Win 7 and setting recent files to 0 is not affecting that display at all.
Also, sometimes when I load SMPlayer, it starts scanning my drives, like my whole computer. It acts as some sort of scanner, NOT as a media player at all. That is, sometimes (rarely) SMPlayer will not play any file loaded, but will only start scanning all my drives (at the bottom it gives me a running account of the drives it's scanning, weird), no matter which file I load. Shutting it down and restarting it doesn't change this behaviour. If I load the file in VLC, an Mplayer window pops up after VLC's been playing for a while and also plays the same file. Once I close the Mplayer window, SMPlayer works normally.
Odd. But it's so rare that it's not a real issue. I'm only telling you this in case it helps you to analyze what's going on and why my recent files won't disappear with setting it to 0.
Thanks,

mplayer the first time creates a font cache, maybe that's the scanning you see. Anyway that should only be done once.

Thanks on the font cache..... anyone have any idea how to stop it from showing recent files on the taskbar?
It's funny, under "Open" in the menu, there is no option for recent files..... but on the taskbar, they're all there.....
thx,
Mud

I tested on windows xp and I couldn't reproduce the problem.
About the font cache, try with the option -nofontconfig in preferences -> advanced -> options for mplayer.

Arg, that sucks. Thanks a lot RVM, I appreciate the goodwill.
I love SMPlayer, but since upgrading to Win7, I have to use VLC as my default player now because when I double click on anything (including adult content) it will automatically appear on my taskbar. Crazy idea, that. So when my kids come over they'd learn things about what Daddy watches that they're not old enough to understand yet, especially my daughter, so I've just resolved it by making VLC my default player. And that kinda sucks since I really prefer SMPlayer.
The interesting thing is my last machine was a Win7 machine as well, and SMPlayer did NOT do this on that one, so it obviously doesn't do it on all Win7 machines. And there must be a fix.
I imagine that as more people get on Win7, this feature has to cause more problems, so eventually someone will find and post a fix. Until then....... sigh, bye bye my favourite.
Again, thanks for your help though, RVM, I appreciate it. You have most definitely just upped your "helping karma". Thanks,

Could you send a screenshot? Because I'm still not sure where that info appears.
VLC Preferences Setting Affecting SMPlayer!!

Eureka rvm, it’s solved! And in the most unexpected way!
Basically, I had set VLC to be my default video player (sob) and then unchecked “remember history” in the VLC options panel. I still continued to use SMPlayer although it wasn’t my default player (so I could better control what was added to my recent files list), but I noticed it stopped adding files to the recent files list ever since I unchecked that box in VLC’s preferences.
Basically, the setting in VLC was somehow interfering with SMPlayer’s settings. I know that might sound crazy, but this is the second time this happened.
I had another issue that involved one of these same two players taking the other’s settings, regardless of what was set in its own preferences menu. I don’t remember which setting now, nor which program was reading which’s, but come to think of it, it was probably this exact same setting because on my old computer neither program had history remembered, so I must have gone through exactly this before, about a year ago.
So this time I made a note of it in my “setting up a new computer” checklist, I won’t forget it again.
Thanks for your help rvm. If not for that, I would have just given up, and.... well, set VLC as my default player, and come to the same happy conclusion.....
But nobody likes to have their problem ignored by a whole forum community, so thanks anyway. I appreciate it,
And if it ever does that drive scanning thing again, I'll screenshot it. But those drive paths were appearing in the area at the bottom where it says "Welcome to SMPlayer".
That one hasn't happened again. I did just set up this computer so it is probably what you said about it doing that the first time. It did it 3 or 4 times, but whatever, as long as it works I work with it. Again, thanks,
EDIT: in case you meant where that recent file info was appearing, I attached a screenshot. Thx again,

I think that window is not displayed by smplayer. I must be a windows 7 thing... I guess windows is tracking the files opened by smplayer and it shows them in that menu.
I thought you meant this menu:
