Choppy Anime Playback

Hey guys,
Hopefully I'm not asking a repeat question. I did search for it but found which honestly wasn't helpful to me, as I got to and didn't know what to do.
Anyways, I've got SMPlayer because VLC wasn't working well for me at all to play the anime I have. During parts with very little action (nothing but lips moving) it played smoothly, but when bright flashes happened or when people moved quickly, the video would be discolored and/or covered in large splotchy pixels. When I switched to SMPlayer, this went away, but I still have choppy, skippy video that sometimes sticks on frames. I've set my video caches to 5,000 each (except for DVD, I don't even have a dvd drive on my eeepc.) and it still does it. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I should do?
