Hi I want to know what is the best way to go about listening to audiobooks which usually are long mp3 files and sometimes more than one.

I know smplayer will remember the latest I listen to a single mp3 file, but will it remember the position over the span of several mp3. In other words can it do to the mp3 file the same it can do to an m3u file (save the position of the mp3 and the sequencial files after/before it)?

When you close smplayer, (by default) it will save a copy of the playlist. When you open smplayer the playlist will be loaded and it will remember the current item. But in order to play the file from where it was before it's necessary to uncheck the option "play files from start" in preferences -> playlist.
