How to deactivate video output

Hello,
I have a very slow PC. Sometimes at work I just listen to music videos, so I don't want the video output also for means of cpu time.
In vlc theres a check box in the preferences, where yo can just switch of video - is there something similar for SMPlayer?
I tried with adding "-vo null" to mplayer command line parameters, this suppresses video output but cpu consumption is still high.
Any hints?
Thanks
Tom
