this my first post so please don't be too harsh
i use the latest version smplayer-0.8.1.4545-x86
i've changed the exit driver in general option - video from direct3d to directx (fast)
if i do that smplayer crashes
if i return to direct3d works fine
tried the stable version 0.81 same problem
here is the log

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: uninit_vcodec
ID_SIGNAL=11
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

tested on the new smplayer-0.8.1.4558-win32 the directx (fast) problem
with the directx (fast) on, works fine on avi, wmv, mkv files
but still crashes on mp4 files

I can't reproduce the crash even with the same video. I have a feeling of what might have caused it but I won't have a new build for you to test until I get back from work.

Download and unzip this to your desktop, and go into the smplayer options and change the 'MPlayer executable' to the new mplayer.exe, and try to reproduce the crash. This one uses an older 'directx' output driver from mplayer to see if a recent change to it is causing it http://sourceforge.net/projects/smplaye ... p/download

I uploaded a new package with debugging support, that doesn't use the older directx output driver from mplayer: http://sourceforge.net/projects/smplaye ... z/download Extract that (you need 7-zip) and open the file 'rungdb.cmd' in the gdb folder. Enter the command:

run -v -vo directx "D:\Torenturi\Once Upon a Time S02E02 HDTV x264-LOL[ettv]\Once.Upon.a.Time.S02E02.HDTV.x264-LOL.mp4"

and try to reproduce the crash. As soon as you did it, gdb will return you to the command line prompt where you have to enter:

bt
disass $pc-32,$pc+32
info all-registers

Copy information from the command prompt, right-click within the command prompt and choose 'Mark', highlight all the information from the three debugging commands and press Enter to copy and paste it in a reply. Be sure not to leave out anything from the debugging commands.

To seek, use the arrow keys and Escape to stop the video.

used the version smplayer-0.8.1.4558-win32
tried the first package (mplayer-35248-test1) with directx(fast) activated
played several video formats ( avi, mkv, mp4, wmv, flv)
the error is gone
however another problem appeared
when i zoom in it only goes up and down stretching the image

tried the second package mplayer-svn-35250-d
tried several times to reproduce the crash without succes
every time the file exited normally
again played several video formats with directx(fast) actived
no error appeared
and the zoom problem is gone
it now goes all around
there was only one small problem with subtitles
i'm from romania
in our language we use diacritics like ş ă ţ Ş
when i run the movie and the sub contains diacritics like those from above i see in smplayer all kind of strange symbols
smplayer shows the correct letters only if they are like this ª(S) º(s) Þ(T) þ(t)
in the subtitle option i use slavic langauges\ central european (ISO-8859-2)

Set smplayer to use the mplayer-svn-35250-d mplayer.exe and play it through smplayer to see/make sure it is gone (unless you did that already). As for the subtitles try the "try to autodetect" option, or maybe UTF-8.

used smplayer-0.8.1.4558-win32 with mplayer-svn-35250-d
tested on avi, mp4, mkv, flv, works fine no errors
on wmv files, i get green screen
i have audio but instead of image i get green screen

on the subtitles problem:

subtiles with diacritics ª(S) º(s) Þ(T) þ(t)
using UTF-8 with\without autodetection, instead of diacritics i get chinese symbols
using slavic languages with\without autodetection works fine

subtitles with diacritics Ş ş ţ
using UTF-8 with\without autodetection, works fine
using slavic languages with\without autodetection, i get strange symbols
if i can make a sugestion
if possible, take a look at media player classic - home cinema subtitle option ( if i'm not mistaken it's free source)
mpc-hc with with central european activated shows all diacritics ( ª(S) º(s) Þ(T) þ(t) or Ş ş ţ) without any problems

There are two Slavic/Central Euro options, did you try the one that says "CP1250"?
