Floating control bar appears once - then not in any video

I only found one post about floating control bar not appearing correctly in full screen: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1443&p=3104&hilit=floating+control+bar#p3104
But it has suggestion to change a preference that's not shown in my version 8.1.4449 - using w/ MPlayer2.
Really haven't used full screen mode much. First time I put it in full screen, & moved mouse to bottom of screen, floating control appeared normally.
Next time I used full screen (possibly on another vid), it never appeared, nor on any vids after that.
Problem appears related to MPlayer2. Not sure if anything can be done from SMPlayer's end, but the behavior is "interesting." If I use an SMPlayer bundle w/ Mplayer (portable), no problem w/ floating control appearing in full screen.
1) In SMPlayer w/ MPlayer2, by accident, discovered that if vid is playing & hit stop, then floating control DOES appear (in full screen) as normal - if I enter full screen w/o a vid playing.
If restart THAT vid again, using the floating control, floating control bar WILL appear from then on, in full screen - for THAT video. By starting the vid using floating control, can go back / forth many times from normal to full screen & floating bar appears correctly.
2) Still in SMPlayer w/ MPlayer2, if stop vid again & restart using the "normal" control bar, the floating bar will never appear in full screen. Tried both these methods on many vids - results were same.
Same thing in # 2 happens in another SMPlayer version w/ MPlayer2 & also in SMPlayer2 w/ MPlayer2.
When floating bar is NOT showing in full screen, if I click the mouse near where the seek bar WOULD be, it advances the video, even though I can't see any controls.
Don't know if that's because the floating control is "hidden" or the normal control bar is still there - but hidden. Either way, closed SMPlayer & reopened several different vids, several times.
Really don't see any preferences to show / not show floating control bar.
Looked in smplayer.ini for something that possibly relates to showing the floating control bar (or not) - don't find anything unusual.
