Cannot view videos right side up

I have many files (most are .MOV from an iPhone) that play sideways or upside down in SMPlayer. It will rotate 90 degrees only once per direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise), not allowing it do be done if a video needs to be rotated 180 degrees. No matter what combination of "Rotate", "Flip Image" or "Mirror Image" I use, the video will continue to play sideways, upside down, backwards or some combination of all three. Why is there no 180 rotate option and/or why is there no option to rotate 90 degrees in the same direction more than once? What is the problem and how is it resolved?

my bro sent mov to me and its sideways i cant get it to flip
it plays in vlc fine but it wont save it correctly
