SMPlaayer has no problem playing any media file with foreign Characters in file name (eg. Chinese or Japanese. However it won't play srt (subtitle file) ktha contains any foreign characters.

After renaming the file to English Only, it has no problem playing the SRT subtittle.

I want to retain File names in original language.

Anybody know how to get around this problem?

Thank You.

I don't know it your problem is related to this:

Downloading:

youtube-dl -f 18 --retries 6 --title "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwYJpbK4mHw"

downloads with a filename having a long space (after the first 6 characters):

東日本大震災 相馬市岩子地区の津波映像(初公開)-AwYJpbK4mHw.mp4

which is made up of

E3 80 80

and SMPlayer does not load it.

Changing this long space to Z, for instance, allows play.

東日本大震災Z相馬市岩子地区の津波映像(初公開)-AwYJpbK4mHw.mp4

openSUSE 12.3, KDE 4.10.3
youtube-dl --version
2012.10.09
SMPlayer © 2006-2013
Version: 0.8.5
Using Qt 4.8.4 (compiled with Qt 4.8.4)
Using MPlayer SVN r35127

I can't reproduce the problem. In Ubuntu 12.04 the video is opened without problems.

Hello everyone :-)

I seem to have the same problem.
I've been using SMplayer for 5 years or so, and it's been ok always.
But now for no reason (as it seems) it doesn't "see" .srt files - as if they are not there, but they are, and 2 other players I have play them. I tried unistallation/installation (latest version), no use
Can anyone help me with this, please?
