Qt vs Gtk file open dialog

Previously I used SMPlayer within GNOME 3.8, and when I went to open a file, the GTK file open dialog was used. It looks similiar to this .
I recently switched to XMonad as my window manager and now SMPlayer uses the Qt file open dialog; looks like this
I really prefer the GTK one as I can navigate it solely with the keyboard, but I can't seem to get SMPlayer to go back to using that dialog. I've tried changing the Qt theme in qtconfig to GTK+, I even tried switching back to GNOME for a session, and the really strange part was this time it used the Qt dialog in GNOME.
Did something in the code change recently or does anyone know how I can force SMPlayer to use the GTK file open dialog?
Thanks
