I think smplayer actually doesn't keep the last url. I think you copied a url to the clipboard and when you open the url dialog, smplayer gets the url from the clipboard.

That appears to be correct. Maybe it's too difficult for SMP to clear the clipboard, say, after link is copied into SMP & play begins (or attempted)? A lot of apps give option to clear clipboard data after X sec. But I could also create a clear clipboard shortcut.
Is there a Clear Playlist option or button?

There's an option in the playlist to remove all.

My mistake - thanks.
It may not be possible to keep SMP from copying the same URL from clipboard more than once (well, probably possible...). Technically, probably no reason for SMP to copy the same URL more than once, but that still doesn't clear the clipboard.
For those that want to create a shortcut or quick launch icon to clear clipboard contents (for lots of reasons), so don't have to open clipboard to del contents, instructions (2nd Option, for manual) show how.
Only thing I found in Vista is, in the shortcut's properties > "Start in," box, I had to enter C:\Windows\System32\ for it to work.
If your OS isn't in C:\, then enter %windir% instead of C:\Windows\, in both boxes.
