Not able to take screen shots

Vista x64 in last couple of portable SVNs & also latest stable 0.8.6 x64 portable, haven't been able to take any screens.
VLC screens work fine.
Yep, have a folder selected. The last time it worked - in a recent SVN, I took ONE screen - sent it to selected folder, then it wouldn't take any more - during the same vid session & none after I restarted it. Went back & tried a couple previous portable SVNs, but they wouldn't take screens either.
I notice in smplayer.ini, it's using double back slashes (seems normal):
screenshot_folder=J:\\uTorrent\\Index Sites\\Screens\\
though in prefs, it's just J:\uTorrent\Index Sites\Screens\
Same folder I've used all along. Tried changing to another - no go.
I attached smplayer log from latest stable 0.8.6 x64 portable - just extracted it today. Plays vids OK - no screens. Shutter may be broken.

Don't know how, but I fixed it. Toggled "enable screen shots;" changed folders couple times, though wound up back w/ one I'd used before - w/o success.
At 1st, thought it was another screen shot app interfering, but ruled that out. Maybe the log will give some idea.
Like when some appliance or gizmo's broken & I take it apart, look at it, put it back together & it works.
Spouse asks, "what'd you do?"
"Nothing - just looked at it."

For whatever reason with mplayer it can't save a screenshot while paused, it will save it when you press play again and may be no notification of it. Is that what you're seeing? Otherwise screenshots are working fine.

Uh, oh. Redxii said mplayer2 was no longer being maintained, fixes may not be made on it; it was crap & anyone that used it was insane. That's not a verbatim quote - I'm using large poetic license, there. My memory plays tricks. Seriously, I don't want to get used to using it & have to give it up, if / when it becomes unusable if fixes aren't made.
Another guy that did a Windows mplayer2 - Lachsor - hasn't updated it in a long time.
You gotta admit, having to start play again, to save a screen is ... one of a kind, AFAIK. If you rarely take screens, not an issue. If you take even 5 or 10, on ONE day - then no more, it's a pain doing it "the mplayer way."
I don't like jacking around w/ 2 or > players (SMP, VLC, etc.). I'm not asking much. Where can I find the original dev, Mr. M. Player? I'd like to tell him how much stress his decision causes many users.

Thanks. I knew about it & tried it once. Maybe should give it another go.

Well, this is a really old topic, but that's exactly my problem: I can't take screen shots. When I try, SMplayer tells me it salved, but the folder remains empty.
Version: 15.11.0
Xubuntu 14.04
Qt 4.8.6

Maybe the folder is read-only?
