Install question

I am new to this player and forum. Thank you for your forbearance if my question is answered elsewhere, as I had not found such.

I see that 'binary codecs' is unchecked in the default install. Does this mean that, without such codecs, SMPlayer does not install rely on any internal (private) codecs, but rather those from the general population? Or does it mean that, in addition to some standard set of private SMPlayer codecs, a codec package available to all programs is not going to be installed? Or is this an extended codec set for SMPlayer only? :?

Thanks.

The binary codecs provide codecs that are not available natively for mplayer yet. They are only needed for some uncommon formats. If you choose to install them, they will be used by mplayer only, they won't interfere with other codecs you may have installed in your computer for other applications.
