Strange playlist problem...

The PLS playlist format is, in part,...
File1=VIDS\\Video1.mp4
If you make a change to the list and resave it (from within SMPlayer), the format changes to...
File1=\\VIDS\\Video1.mp4
i.e. additional backslashes are added.
Additonal backslashes are added each time the playlist is resaved.
Here's where the weird part comes in...
When the File name format has four backslashes, and only four (e.g., File1=\\\\VIDS\\Video1.mp4) and you launch the playlist, SMPlayer takes the name of the video folder, concatenates it to the name of the computer's DHCP domain name ( the internet service provider), and sends it on to the DNS name server.
For instance, in this case...
VIDS-hsd1.ca.comcast.net will be sent to 8.8.8.8 for DNS lookup.
Obviously there is no need for this to take be happening. Is there a way the playlist could be made to not append backslashes at the beginning when saving or resaving?
This all is taking place with WinXP, in case that matters.
