I was using smplayer with mplayer until recently on Ubuntu 14.04 32 bit.
Unfortunately, there is no obvious way to display the version.

The last update broke it, it now crashes with:
Error parsing option input-x11-keyboard (option not found)
Setting commandline option --input-x11-keyboard=no failed.
Exiting... (Fatal error)

I un-installed smplayer and mplayer, set the repository to http://ppa.launchpad.net/rvm/smplayer/ubuntu trusty main, and installed again with mpv instead of mplayer. Same result.

I also found the config files do not seem to be where I have expected them (.mpv and .config/mpv).
It seems, however, that mpv is running well if started without smplayer.
How to get smplayer running, again?

I can't reproduce your problem. Both mplayer and mpv work fine for me with smplayer (14.9.0.6778) in ubuntu 14.04. I'm using the latest versions of mplayer (2:1.1+dfsg1-0ubuntu3) and mpv (2:0.8.3+git) available for ubuntu 14.04.

About mpv, there was a report about xv which may not work in the latest version. Try to use another video output.

Edit: You just updated your post to indicate the version of mpv you're using. That version is very old and it won't work with smplayer. There's info here about how to get a newer version:

Somehow, I missed to set the right ppa for mpv, so it took the old one.
All ok now.
