Hey quick question
How to contorl the positions of subtitles on the screen? Keys R and t don't work. However I can control the size using shift+R and shift+T
THanks

If you're using smplayer with mplayer, then it seems it's necessary to disable the "ASS library" (preferences -> subtitles) to change the position of the subtitles. With there's no such limitation.

Video -> Filters -> Add black borders
I've got the ASS library disabled, but I can't use ANY filters. If I try and enable the software video equalizer - or even don't disable software video filters in vdpau, smplayer just locks up. I was trying to do the same thing. Move subtitles down into the black bar, but as far as they'll go is the bottom of the video window.

Can you send the smplayer log?
