Options for Mplayer in preferences.

Hi, i have searched the forum but found nothing on this, perhaps someone could help a newbie? I love SMPlayer. But each time I load a video file, I like to decrease the brightness by pressing "3" twice (to brightness -8) as it is my preference. I believe I can have the player do this automatically for me each time I run the player by entering a 'code' in Preferences>Advanced> Options for Mplayer. I have tried "-dec_brightness" but smplayer crashes. Can anyone tell me what I need to type in here to make this happen? Many thanks.
