About half the time when I click on a video it opens in the screen where mp3's play. If I go to Windows explorer and click open in smplayer media player then it opens in the video window. Is there a setting I can change to avoid this? Thanks

No clues? There must be a setting somewhere that's not right?

What is the "screen where mp3's play"?

Thanks for the reply. I didn't see it at first. When I play an audio file there is just a small screen under the command line. Normally when I play a video it goes to larger or full screen. Lately when I play a video it often opens that little one. If I go to Windows Explorer (8.1) and right click on the title and select "open with" and choose smplayer media player" it opens correctly. I'm not sure I've seen an exact pattern. It seems it's happening when I first have played an mp3 and then , after closing it, click on a video. It then opens in that little window.

Could you send a screenshot of that little window?

Yes. It shows how it looks when opening mp3.(top left) then if I just double click an mp4 or video file like one normally does it opens in the little window (bottom left). If I go to windows explorer and right click and select open with smplayer media player it opens like image on right as video.

I guess this problem only happens in windows because I can't reproduce it in linux.
Anyway you can try this: go to preferences -> interface and turn off the option "hide video window when playing audio files", and the "little window" won't be used anymore.

It just started doing it recently. Could be my switch to 8.1 made me notice it. Actually I'd just assume have to right click video files than have that large video window open when playing an audio file. Still smplayer is my favorite. Thanks
