The subtitles seems to be rendered at the same resolution as the video.
So when you play a small resolution video in full screen the subtitles does not look good.
Like is you play a 320x200 video in fullscreen.

At least on Debian linux.
I will test on Windows 7 later.

I think you need to change the video output to gl (or opengl) to get subtitles with bigger resolution.

I guess there should be some info about the different rendering output drivers.
