Can't upgrade or uninstall

Attempted to upgrade.
Forced to abort due to upgrade faillure.
Decide to uninstall & the reinstall latest V.
Can't uninstall because Revo Uninstaller & Win7(64) appear to have no record of the install.
Very annoying.
BTW What on earth does "reset settings" mean.
I selected this but now regret -0 but surely it potentially presents problems which are not at all obvious.
Please -0 any advice on how to proceed.
Just remembered: why is setting SMP as the default for all files so darned hard - seems it should be dead simple.
