Issue with going in and out of fullscreen mode

This may just be another manifestation of these issues, or it may be something different:

I'm on Ubuntu 15.10, and running:
SMPLAYER: 15.11.0.7290-1~wily1 from http://ppa.launchpad.net/rvm/smplayer/ubuntu/ (I recently updated to this version, which is when the issue started)
MPV: 0.14.0-1~wily from http://ppa.launchpad.net/mc3man/ffmpeg-test1/ubuntu/
When I start a video, smplayer starts in window mode. I think press "f" to put smplayer into fullscreen mode. If I pause the video and then hit the "f" key again, the video returns to the original window size and position (this is the expected behavior).
However, if while the video is still playing I press the "f" key twice (once to get into fullscreen, and once to return to windowed mode), instead of returning to its original size, it switches to a fullscreen window.
Is this a bug, or a setting I have to change? Is there a solution?
