smplayer 16.8.0 subtitle autoload not working

Hi:
I'm using Smplayer 16.8.0 with Ubuntu 16.04, in Smplayer I've configured to autoload subtitles with the same name as the movie, but whenever I load a media file (mp4, mkv, etc.) with subtitles, the media file started with no subtitle, I have to add it manually. Is this still a bug or I'm missing something here?

It works for me.
Could you send the smplayer log after trying to play a video with subtitles? (menu View).

I tested on Ubuntu 16.04 and it worked fine for me.
I'm asking to send the log that you'll find in the menu View, option SMPlayer log (after playing a video where this problem happens). The log provides info about what SMPlayer is doing, so maybe I can figure out why the autoload option is not working for you.

I can't see any error in the log, everything seems fine. Aren't the subtitles listed in the menu Subtitles -> Primary track?

Is the option "select first available subtitle" in preferences -> subtitles checked?
Without it, the subtitles are loaded but none is selected.
