The new version of SMPlayer uses new video and audio filters in mpv (because the old ones were deprecated).
Unfortunatelly mpv 0.14 may not have those filters. The solution is to update mpv. You can find a PPA with mpv 0.27 here:
https://launchpad.net/~mc3man/+archive/ubuntu/mpv-testsOr just turn off the audio equalizer in Preferences -> General -> Audio.

Hello rvm,
Thanks for your reaction.
For now I have turned off the audio equalizer,
didn’t realize the solution would be so easy.
Updating to MPV 0.27 might be an idea for later.
Have a nice day,
Sourcefan

Hi OP,
What video format were you playing that is having this issue? Is it all or just a select few?
I also have a similar issue, but only for AVI. MP4 and MKV are okay. And yes audio plays fine when using MPV directly.
In my case, turning off the audio equalizer did not fix this issue.
