VDPAU works, but won't play divx, only x264.

Hi,

I'm running mplayer 3:1.0~rc4-0.1 with SMPlayer 0.6.9-2 on a Linux Mint Debian laptop with Nvidia 9300 GM GPU. When I set output to vdpau I'm alble to play mkv containing x264 HD files, but none of my xvid avi's will play. I think I read somewhere that this GPU only support accellerated x264, not xvid, but before SMPlayer fell back on unaccellerated playback for the files not supported by vdpau. Not so now. This is what I get in the mplayer log when trying to play divx:

FATAL: Could not initialize video filters (-vf) or video output (-vo).

How can I get SMPlayer to accellerate supported video and still play other video without having to change output every time? It works like that with gnome-mplayer, but that player doesn't even come close to SMPlayer in other areas.

Hello there,

I did not understand what you actually are asking for:
- if you ask that smplayer support VDPAU output for the files that are not working I think you are asking in the wrong place - the question should be directed to the mplayer developers or the linux mint mplayer builders

- if you ask how to start-up smplayer with a different -vo output for these specific files I think this could be a solution: IIRC smplayer can not pass itself this option at the start-up so one solution would be to have a diiferent folder with the settings that work (i.e. using a different video output) - using the "portable mode"; you can find some hints for winblows here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=514&start=0&hilit=portable

For the second option you could try even this and see if it works: in Options/Preferences/Advanced/Options for MPlayer / Options add something like this: -vo vdpau_output, other_output,

The comma will make mplayer try the other video output if the first one fails and the second and so on

Same thing can be achieved in Options/General/Video/outut driver: select "user defined" and put the comma-separated list list there.
