How to force SHARPEN filter ON and edit the value?

hi new member here, thanks in advance for any help...using latest version of smplayer on windows 10 64-bit...mainly to play DVD's b/c I ususally use MPC-HC but for some reason it doesnt play all DVD's correctly on my systems
I did searches everywhere I could prior to posting here, found a post that said to insert unsharp=lc:1.5 into the preferences/advanced/options window for video filters, but this just makes the DVD not even open, giving me the "oops error code 2" or something like that
I also tried going into the smplayer_ini folder and the smplayer_files ini folders and tried to turn unsharp to "on" from off and that gave me the same error...and I am not sure which folder Im supposed to be editing
can someone please give me specific instructions of where exactly I have to go to edit these properly? If its really not possible to have the sharpen filter on by default, I could live with that and just turn it on each time, but I would really like to decrease the effect from 1.5 to 1
thanks again!
