By the way... what happened with the package em8300-headers? It's not in lucid and I can't find any other package which replaces it.

I do not know about the Ubuntu package for Lucid,
but since the header seems to be only 1 file, you could get the development version from

Looks like it was dropped from Debian and Ubuntu for being old, buggy, and broken:
