AVI video displays counter top-right ?

Using SMPlayer on Ubuntu .... there's an opaque bar at the top of the AVI video with a counter at top-right. This isn't present in the Windows version of SMPlayer.

How can I switch this off?

I assume you are talking about the OSD. You can turn it of with "Options > OSD > Subtitles only."

The only options in OSD are Disabled - Seek bar - time - time+total time.

Enabling or disabling them makes no difference to the counter stripe.

This is version 0.0.7 using Qt 4.5.2 compiled with Qt 4.5.1 - from About.

It'll take me some time ... I've just got this PC and I really don't know how to use linux that well ....

I'm going to test it with other file types - mpeg, mp4, flv

Do you mean a shot of the OSD menu, or the actual video image with the bar and counter?

A screenshot of the smplayer window will be nice.

In linux there are several applications to take screenshots. The KDE has one called ksnapshot. The Gnome has another one, I don't know the name, but it's installed by default.

Okay - I'll try over the next couple of days.

For info: the opaque bar and counter is displayed on mp4 and avi.

A simple mpeg doesn't have the opaque bar - but the counter is still there.

Avi and mp4 video also display poor colour rendering while mpeg is fine. Flv file plays but no video!

Just a brief update. To remove the counter -

Look in /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf and for a line that reads:

"osdc=1"

comment it by adding a # in front of the line

But I still have very poor colour rendering in the avi - top line stripe and a strange ghosting effect where colour blocks seem shifted.
