How to report bugs

Some advices to report bugs or feature requests.

First be sure it hasn't been already reported yet in the or trackers. Don't look only in the Open items, look also the Closed or Pending items.

Search also in this forum and in the .

Before sending a bug report or feature request be sure you're using the very latest version of smplayer (that bug or feature could have already been fixed or added). The latest packages can be found . Also if possible try to use a recent version of mplayer. People using mplayer 1.0rc2: it's time to update to 1.0rc3 (at least).

Remember that smplayer and mplayer are two different applications. Be sure the problem you're reporting is related to smplayer. I can't fix bugs or make improvements in mplayer. Run mplayer alone and see if you can reproduce the problem. In that case you should report it to the mplayer developers, in the mplayer or .

When using the or trackers it's highly advisable you register in sourceforge, this way you'll get e-mail notifications about the status of your report.

Provide as much info as possible. At least: OS (linux/windows), version of smplayer and mplayer, and maybe the mplayer log. If I can't reproduce your problem probably I won't be able to fix it.

I may ask you for more info. When I do this, I usually mark the report as "Pending", meaning that the report will be automatically closed within 14 days if you don't respond.

i have a problem with smplayer on windows 7 ultimate.

the problem is like this...

when i play a movie with smplayer after a while my windows stops and shows me a blue screen... this happens even with a freshly installed windows

I am running Windows 8 64bit desk top. RAM files are listed as supported with SMPlayer but when I try to run my .RAM files it locks up SMPlayer, the GUI shows the name of the file running but 0 time and a black screen. I can run my .RAM files in Real Player. The only way I can exit SMPlayer is to CTL ALT Delete, Task Manager then end the SMPlayer process. All my other file types work well with SMPlayer.

If you use windows maybe the easiest way is to drag and drop a video in the mplayer icon. You'll find mplayer inside the smplayer installation folder.

Hi. I updated SMPlayer yesterday with the new version and since then everytime I open it, a new tab on Chrome pops up with "First steps with SMPlayer". How to stop this?

You can turn off the option "open an informative page after an upgrade" in preferences -> updates.
However that page should only open once after the upgrade, not everytime you open the player, so maybe there's a problem reading/writing the settings.
