No SMP audio/video sync?

Postby AEN007 » Mon Mar 29, 2010 11:33 am

29March2010

Greetings.

Yet another new problem with SMP 0.6.9portable ...
I "redo" video files with VirtualDub.
I used to use SMP to preview the input & output files ... no problems.
Now SMP does not play the avi (DivX codec done with AviSynth) output file properly.
There is no A/V sync.
This problem is on all three of my XP laptops and even with previous SMPport releases!
SMP plays the input files fine.
VLC & JetAudio play the output files fine - no A/V sync problems.

I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it.

I would also like to ask/know about portable MPlayer updates to my SMPportable?
I have so far only found install exes for MPlayer.
How can one update MPlayer within SMPportable?

Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
Thank you.
Regards,
AEN

Maybe it's a problem of the mplayer build included in the package. Maybe you can try a different version of mplayer.

You can find newer versions of mplayer here:

Greetings.
Many thanks.

I downloaded the P4 build for my P4 T30 and
the 486 or better build for my 12-year old PII 233 from 1998.
I'm not sure if I "should" use the P4 or P3 for my
Intel® Celeron® M Processor 370
1 MB L2 Cache | 1.5 GHz | 400 MHz FSB
The Celeron M seems slightly faster than the P4 ...

It seems SMP "should" replace the MPlayer in the 0.6.9 portable download.

Thank you.

Greetings.
I have just discovered & started playing around with the MPlayer commandline/config file.
S/MPlayer is my preferred video player on my XP laptops G & I.
Laptop G has an Intel Celeron M370 1500MHz & 1gb DDR2 266MHz RAM.
Laptop I has a PIV 1800MHz & 1gb DDR 133MHz RAM.

I want XP laptop T (from 1998 has a PII 233MHz with 160mb RAM) to be my multimedia machine.
I play A/V files on T while I work on G & I. (I wish my USB analog video device would run on T ...)
VLC works better than S/MP on T.
VLC will play very well any/all avi files I have made IF
the dimensions are 320:240; the bitrate is not too high & the framerate is 25 or less.
S/MP will not play those (or any ) files on T. CPU usage goes to 100% & the playback locks up.
MPlayer through the commandline will play those files as well as VLC on T.

The MPlayer console gives the following two messages:
1) Invalid and inefficient vfw-avi packed B frames detected;
2) Could not find matching colorspace - retrying with -vf scale...;

The MPlayer website says the following under News,
"NOTE: FFmpeg-mt has problems with packed b-frames.
A Windows build of MPlayer using FFmpeg-mt can be found at
http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php. "

My question here is » Where could I find/try a NON -FFmpeg-mt MPlayer build?

Regarding MPlayer message #2»
I'm not sure what that message means, but I would like to know
the MPlayer commandline/config file entry to prevent MPlayer
from starting the scale filter.
It seems to me that MPlayer filters require
too much cpu usage on laptop T. How can one disable and /or prevent MPlayer
from loading/starting video filters?

Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
Thank you.

I would really like to resolve my previous questions.
Maybe someone could/would at least tell me where to find good MPlayer forums?

Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.

Greetings.

I am making progress with MPlayer commandline/config file usage -
(no thanks to anyone on the MPlayer help mailing list, however ...)
In any case I have not been able to find or figure out
how to use the "fps" element in the SMPlayer preferences.
fps=23.976 forces fps when in the config file.
I would like to know how to force fps through SMPlayer ...
I can make many commandline/config file entries through SMP-Prefs ...
I have been able to reduce S/MPlayer CPU usage on "T"
almost enough to use S/MPlayer as well as VLC on "T" ...

I am also still looking for a NON -FFmpeg-mt MPlayer build (to use with S/MP ...)
"mt" stands for "multi-thread". Is that for use really on Dual-Core PCs?

Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
Thank you.

http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php has a non ffmpeg-mt Mplayer, it's the 'Generic 486 or better' package.

It's the same build included in smplayer-0.6.9.3562-win32.exe (and later) @ http://sourceforge.net/projects/smplaye ... erimental/ , the 'Runtime CPU Detection' option.

Greetings.
"mt" stands for "multi-thread". Is that for use really on Dual-Core PCs?

My XP laptop "T" has a PII 233mHz.
I already use the 486 or better build on "T".
I use the P4 builds on my other two XP laptops
but maybe should find a real non-mt build?

Anyway, the MPlayer console on "T' gives the following message,
"Invalid and inefficient vfw-avi packed B frames detected";

The MPlayer website says the following under News,
"NOTE: FFmpeg-mt has problems with packed b-frames.
A Windows build of MPlayer using FFmpeg-mt can be found at
http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php. "

My question, therefore is (now),
If the 486+ build is non-mt, why does it give that message?
I have tried on "T" several unofficial MPlayer build downloads.
I found two that do not give that message,
but I have not been able to make them work with SMPlayer ...
