SMPlayer 14.3 shows "First Steps" everytime

I just installed SMPlayer 14.3 on Win7 and everytime I start SMPlayer "First Steps" will be opened in my browser. I also noticed that SMPlayer won't remember any changes that I make to the settings.
I even uninstalled 14.3 an reinstalled 0.8.6 but it shows the same "not saving the settings"-behaviour - never noticed that before.
And everytime I start 0.8.6 I get bugged about the new version.
So using SMPlayer is quite painful at the moment.

Extra info: I use Win7 with a limited user account and entered the admin credentials for installation.

Could you send the smplayer log? (Options -> View logs)

Probably smplayer.ini is in a read-only directory.

Problem seems solved:
Viewing the properties of C:/Users/<ME>/.smplayer indeed revealed that some files are read-only. Unchecking and applying this changed a lot of files to writable. I hope the weren't any files inside that folder that needed to be read-only?!
